I read a great article from Valet Magazine on the Pea Coat titled: The Anatomy of a Classic. The pea coat is extremely versatile as it can be worn with a grey American Apparel tee or a dress shirt and sweater combo.
Never underestimate the power of a classic. When you put on a pea coat, you’re wearing a bit of world history on your back. And whether it’s the clean lines, the simple military styling or the rugged undertones, no man looks bad in a pea coat. It can be worn with nearly everything—and it’s been around so long, it basically has been.
Every fashion label from Prada to Old Navy makes a version. But, Valet Mag says if you’re going to wear something as iconic as a pea coat, why not get the Classic Pea Coat at Schott NYC ($188). Another good example is the Military Pea Coat from Martin+Osa (pictured below). The Martin+Osa coat was well designed, warm and comfortable. Unfortunately for me, having a slimmer build, it was a bit loose and the sleeves were a bit long. In my opinion, the key with pea coats is to make sure they’re not too long and that they fit the body well. So, if you’re like me and the European/Japanese brands fit you better than the American brands, then I recommend Schott’s Slim Fit model ($215) and I suggest checking out H&M, Zara, or one of the higher end European/Japanese brands.

I totally agree. Pea coats are fantastic. May I also suggest the beauty that is the Duffel coat ? I am a big fan of the Duffel.
